Kennels and Dog Crates – A True Advantage For Canines and Humans

June 7th, 2010

Dogs, just like human beings, enjoy having a space they can call their own. This is possible for them with kennels and crates for dogs. It is more common to use kennels when your dog is outdoors and crates when your dog is indoors. If your canine friend is going to stay outdoors for prolonged periods of time, and particularly if you do not have a fenced-in yard, you will need a dog kennel to keep your canine safe and at ease. The size of the kennel will depend on how large your furry friend is, and don’t forget to take into account (if your dog isn’t yet full grown) how large your canine will eventually get. Most people select either a wire mesh kennel or a galvanized steel kennel for outdoor use. You have options for the ground covering ranging from the original soil in your yard to gravel to a concrete slab. Take into consideration that if your furry friend likes to dig, they may well be able to dig below the kennel and get away if you stick with sand or dirt. It is also good to place some sort of a roof over the kennel. A replaceable tarpaulin that you can fasten down is a very good solution or you could decide to go with a shingle roof. It depends on how much money you are willing to spend.

Dog crates and kennels come in various sizes and shapes but a good instance of a kennel is the Jewett-Cameron Champion dog kennel which will set you back roughly two hundred dollars. It is straightforward to assemble and it is designed for convenience, safety and long life. It is made of galvanized steel that offers corrosion resistance and it will also shield your four-legged friend from wild animals and stray dogs. A tarpaulin could easily be located over the top of the kennel. It measures 5 feet long x 4 feet high x 5 feet wide. If you require something bigger Jewett-Cameron offers a kennel that is 5 feet wide x 6 feet high x 10 feet long and will set you back approximately $400. It has the same excellent characteristics as the other kennel but it will give your four-legged friend added leg room.

Dog crates are also made of steel but, in addition, you can expect to find them in canvas, plastic and wood. These work better inside your residence and will provide your doggy a place that they know is their own where they can feel safe and sound. They are also useful for driving your canine to vet appointments and for other travel purposes. A lot of the wooden crates are made to look like an item of furniture and they can be made to blend in with your interior decoration and even used as a table. They start at approximately two hundred dollars. The wire crates begin at about $60, as do the canvas crates. On the less expensive side, you’ll find dog crates for sale made with plastic that will set you back about forty dollars but, of course, the cost is based on not just on the size of your furry friend but also on the features that are important to you.

Dog crates and kennels can be a real advantage to both you and your four-legged friend. For outdoors, they have a spot where they are safe and you can feel confident leaving them knowing they are in a contained area and happy. For inside, both and you will be content in the knowledge that they have a spot to make their own where they can go and feel snug and comfortable.
